NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals

Diploma Level

The NEBOSH National Diploma is the internationally recognised qualification relevant for health and safety professionals, or those with aspirations to be one and people with health and safety responsibilities who want to gain an in-depth understanding of health and safety.

It is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding required to undertake a career as a health and safety professional and it also provides a sound basis for progression to postgraduate study.

The qualification is a substantial undertaking, and each unit requires a great deal of commitment and time

Course Content

Course Content:

On completion of the qualification, you will be able to:

  • understand how health and safety legislation is applied in a workplace and the possible enforcement actions that could be taken
  • identify and effectively communicate relevant health and safety information
  • advise on a range of common workplace health and safety issues including how these can be assessed, controlled and monitored
  • develop a health and safety policy strategy (including proactive safety, Corporate Social Responsibility and the change management process)
  • contribute to a risk management strategy
  • promote a positive health and safety culture
  • develop and audit health and safety management systems
  • maintain individual and organisational health and safety competence
  • manage contractors and supply chains to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Entry Requirements

Learners must have undertaken the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent SCQF Level 6 or 7 qualification.

Duration

3 units, DN1, DN2 and DN3.

12 weeks for DN1
10 weeks for DN2
8 weeks for DN3

Total qualification requires minimum of 191 taught hours, plus 144 recommended self-study hours and 140 assessment hours.

Study Methods

This course consists of online session and activities, practical training with written assessments.

Assessment

Each unit is assessed as follows:

Unit DN1
Assignment - workplace-based tasks together with simulations and reflective statements and a research topic
4 weeks to complete (20 working days)

Unit DN2
Scenario-based case study
2 weeks to complete (10 working days)

Unit DN3
Scenario-based case study
2 weeks to complete (10 working days)
