Elinor Richards

NEBOSH Tutor

Meet Elinor

Having come from an agricultural background,  Elinor has a strong philosophy of utilising the resources already in place and improving upon them with a little bit of ingenuity and out of the box thinking.

Elinor’s Safety, Environment and Quality career started in a cement factory, surrounded by kilns, rotary mills, conveyors, drag chains, HGVs, bulk silos, excavators, crushers and blast rock.  A dusty, hot and chemical environment, with a varied array of SHE hazards including confined spaces, pressure vessels, explosives and DSEAR.  A highly regulated industry, Elinor liaised closely with HSE, Environment Agency/NRW, Fire Service and the general public, appearing on radio, TV and handling complaints.  As a lead auditor, she helped implement, manage and maintain accreditation to ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001.

From there, Elinor moved to the MOD, managing the safety, health, quality and environment on the army training camps in the West Midlands. Daily work life included large catering facilities, sleeping accommodation, ammunition and firing ranges, asbestos management, construction projects and caring for the sprawling countryside.

Having a young family Elinor shifted my focus to helping smaller companies by helping them with risk assessments, policies, procedures, accident and incident investigations, registration scheme applications such as Avetta,  CHAS and SMAS.  Clients ranged from mobile plant hire and haulage companies, landscaping and construction, steel fabricators and machine repair companies, pubs, restaurants, residential lettings, warehousing and distribution.

Elinor now applies all her experience along with her BSc in Environmental Science,  NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and a long list of short courses to the NEBOSH courses that she teaches.
